Rick Astley has joined forces with a Danish brewer to help him open his first bar in London.
Mikkel Borg Bjergso, who was a Astley superfan growing up, will be bringing his Mikkeller beer to the capital. His company is a fast-growing micro brewer based in Copenhagen, and has won the support of the Never Gonna Give You Up star.
Bjergso teamed up with Astley after being put in contact with his wife and manager Lene, who is also Danish. The brewer has also created a beer called Astley’s Northern Hop, which is set to feature within the bar.
Astley and Bjergso have invested together in the bar, which will open in Shoreditch on October 19, with more details set to follow.
Taking to Twitter Astley said: “Shoreditch is getting a new resident!! My good friend Mikkel and I, with his incredible team at @MikkellerBeer brewery, are opening a bar in Shoreditch, London on October 19th. Come one, come all. More details to follow — Rick. X”
Mikkeller was founded in 2006 and already has a number of bars across the globe, but this new venture will mark the first one to be opened in the UK.
Talking to the Evening Standard, Bjergso said: “London has been a top priority from the beginning, we just hadn't found the perfect location until now.”
