A key ally of Jeremy Corbyn has told talkRADIO a number of businesses have backed the Labour Party's budget plans - without naming them.

Bootle MP Peter Dowd spoke to Julia Hartley-Brewer about Labour's demands for the economy ahead of Philip Hammond's official unveiling of the Budget next week.

He claimed a number of businesses have backed the shadow chancellor and Labour's overall plans for the UK economy, but wouldn't name any when questioned by Julia Hartley-Brewer.

Dowd said: "We’ve got businesses talking to us about what our plans are.

“I won’t talk about the individuals concerned, these are confidential conversations we often have.

“I don’t want to go down the path of naming names, but I can say to you I speak to businesses regularly, they come to us about a whole range of issues."
