A leading figure at the Daily Mail has told talkRADIO Virgin Trains' decision to stop selling the paper is "a stunt and "they'll regret it."

Andrew Pierce, the paper's associate editor, also asked Julia Hartley-Brewer: "Are they saying their customers who read the Daily Mail are not suitable to travel on their trains?”

Virgin Trains has decided to stop stocking the Mail, saying the paper's editorial stance on issues such as LGBT rights is incompatible with its own views.

Pierce, who is gay, told Julia this view is "baffling" and neither he nor his colleagues can abide censorship.

"Why doesn't Virgin Trains treat its customers like grown-ups and allow them to choose [their paper]", Pierce added.
