Julia Hartley-Brewer has said it’s "insulting" that George Osborne thinks being an MP is a part time job.

The former Chancellor has been appointed the new editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper, and he will be continuing as the MP for Tatton at the same time.

Julia said: "It's pretty insulting I think, certainly to the people of Tatton and taxpayers who pay his wages, that he clearly thinks it's just something he can do part-time in the afternoons."

News editor at Guido Fawkes Alex Wickham agreed and suggested it's impossible Osborne can balance his new job with his existing work as an MP, as well as his responsibilities as a visiting fellow at a US university and an adviser to BlackRock.

“There is really no way he can do both of these jobs at the same time," Wickham said. "Editing a newspaper is, I would say, a full-time job as really should be being an MP."
