A journalist who has interviewed Donald Trump has advised listeners not to be scared of what he could do. In fact, everyone in Ayrshire loves him.
Today Donald Trump has formally taken office as President of the United States. Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, due to place today at 5pm GMT, there have been numerous protests, and Washington DC is undergoing an extensive security operation to ensure the new President's safety.
Stuart Wilson, a senior reporter for the Ayrshire Post in Scotland, has met the President-elect because Trump owns a golf course there.
He said: “He’s a big departure from what America and the world is used to, but I wouldn't be scared.
"He is a character, he says things to create headlines. How much he believes himself - I’m not too sure. He’s unconsciously-conscious, he definitely knows what he’s doing.
"The Trump we’ve had in Ayrshire, he’s come in and invested over £2 million. He’s created jobs, and he kept people in their jobs when it [the golf course] was being renovated.
“Everyone up in Ayrshire loves what he’s done."
