North Korea's ambassador to the West has said his adopted country is "ready to fight" after Donald Trump's speech earlier today.

Alejandro Cao de Benos, a Spanish-born Communist who acts as North Korea's special representative in Europe, spoke to talkRADIO after Trump told the UN he was prepared to destroy North Korea if provokjed.

Cao de Benos told Sam Delaney that, if the US wishes to embark on a military conflict against Pyongyang, the rogue state will be ready and waiting.

However he also said that "we will never fire first" - suggesting that, if conflict does erupt between the two countries, it will be Trump's responsibility.
