A leading campaigner with Friends of the Earth has told talkRADIO that Theresa May and her Government must start producing, not mere words, to tackle plastic waste.

Julian Kirby appeared on Mike Graham's show after the Prime Minister vowed to eliminate plastic waste by 2042.

"These are welcome words," Kirby said, "welcome rhetoric [but] also familiar words."

He pointed out that the Government initiated a waste review back in 2010-11, and since then "recycling in England has flatlined".

As a result, Kirby said, we need "actual action, enough of the talk."
