Gary Lineker is facing a backlash from Israelis after retweeting a video shared by an ardent pro-Palestine activist.
The former Match of the Day presenter shared a video from Ben White, which appears to show Palestinian children being put into a cage by Israeli soldiers.
The video, which was apparently shot in the West Bank city of Hebron and can be seen in Lineker's tweet (below), shows Israeli soldiers herding children down a street, before cutting to footage of children being led into a cage.
Lineker labelled the footage "sickening" and his message has already been retweeted thousands of times, with many people praising the former Tottenham and England star for taking a stand on such a divisive issue.
However several of the respondents have criticised Lineker, among them Peter Lerner, a former spokesperson for the Israeli army.
Lerner suggested the footage shared by Lineker didn't provide the whole story, adding that the children had been throwing stones and there was no other way of dealing with them.
Other respondents suggested Lineker was wrong to re-tweet White, who is known for his ardent criticism of the Israeli government and has been branded anti-semitic by Jewish bodies such as the Anti-Defamation League.
