Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone regards the House of Lords as “a disgrace”, but he admitted he might still join if he was asked.

A new BBC documentary entitled Meet the Lords has provided a closer look at the House of Lords, sparking controversy about its organisation and whether it is needed.

Livingstone told Sam Delaney that the House of Lords "is a disgrace – it’s filled with people who make big donations to the Labour party or the Tory party.

“I do think there’s a case for a second chamber… given the way that the north and the north-west have been ignored," he said. “I think if we’re having a second chamber it should be elections in regions."

However Livingstone admitted, “If Ed Milband or Jeremy Corbyn had said, 'we need you to go to the House of Lords,' I’d go because there is a fight going on in there."
