The co-leader of the Green Party has said Theresa May should head to the British Virgin Islands to show sympathy with the victims of Hurricane Irma.

Jonathan Bartley was speaking to talkRADIO as Irma continues to barrel across the south of the United States, having earlier wreaked havoc in the Caribbean.

As well as imploring May to pay a personal visit, Bartley also lamented the chronic lack of material support for those on the ground and said the authorities desperately need to restore order.

Bartley also blamed climate change for the disaster, saying hurricanes are now much more forceful because of higher water temperatures.
