A pro-Trump political commentator has blasted the Democratic Party for trying to use the controversy surrounding Jeff Sessions to distract from the positive reception to the President's Senate speech earlier this week.
Donald Trump has been forced to defend Jeff Sessions against Democrat calls for his resignation, after it was confirmed that the attorney-general met Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the US presidential election campaign.
The Democrats have accused Sessions of lying under oath about his contacts with Russia, and now Sessions has recused himself from any investigation into Russian interference in last year's election.
Wolf, a commentator on American politics, told Julia Hartley-Brewer: "There’s nothing illegal about talking to the Russian ambassador.
"This is all a bit of a distraction by the Democrats, they know the President had a fantastic speech last week.
"They're in a position where they’re hurting. The speech was good, the response by the Democrats was pathetic.
“They’re doing anything they can not to fight policy, but to stifle and obstruct the administration."
