George Galloway has said Jerusalem resembles a "powder keg" waiting to explode.
Our host was speaking in the wake of Donald Trump's decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
He also said the United States recognised the city as the rightful capital of Israel, a declaration which was solidly rejected by a number of governments around the world.
George said the reason the US President made his decision was because he was trying to deflect attention from the Russia probe.
He told listeners: "Jerusalem is a powder keg waiting to explode. And it's almost completely misunderstood or no understanding is present in the Western world about the importance of this matter.
"Why did Donald Trump do this? First of all, it’s a look over there moment as the Russia probe probes on.
"Lastly, he did it because he knew there would be a phenomenal backlash across the Muslim world and it won’t be long before that fire spreads.
"It’s a diversion, not the first time that’s been done. I believe this will backfire massively – both on Donald Trump and Israel itself."
