Jonny Gould: 'Did the House of Lords consider a plan for integration after EU citizens amendment?'

Jonny Gould asks a crucial question in the wake of the House of Lords decision

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

Jonny Gould has asked whether the House of Lords has considered a plan to integrate EU citizens.

Last week, the House of Lords voted to pass an amendment put forward by the Opposition for the Government to guarantee the rights of EU citizens as negotiations with the European Union open.

Now, our host asks whether the Lords have fully considered the consequences of this move.

Our host asked, "if the House of Lords trumps the lower chamber on this issue, what about Polish or Romanian builders who earn seven quid an hour on sites across London?

"What about their wives, cleaners on a tenner an hour, getting to the point where they want children in the UK because they’re assimilating? Will they ever be able to extricate themselves from the outer London ghettos to build a British dream?

"If the Lords hands out this version of citizenship to millions, have they considered a plan for integration? Do they even know they’re storing up social and political problems for their British-born children?

“In their ivory towers, not a mile away from westminister, there’s new poverty created by being an EU member, and we have to legislate for them if we’re inviting them to this country forever.”
