At least one person has been killed after a bus chartered by a Texas school crashed into a ravine on its way home from Disney World.

The bus, chartered by Channelview High School near Houston, was travelling through Baldwin County, Alabama when it plunged into a 50-foot ravine after ploughing through the central reservation.

Dozens of people were injured in the incident, and having been taken to 10 different hospitals in the surrounding area.

The pupils were members of the school band and it is thought that at least 45 people were being taken home from Florida. A second bus, which was also was part of the same trip, was not involved in the crash and has returned home.

A statement from District officials read: "A charter bus transporting Channelview High School band students was involved in an accident on Interstate 10 in Alabama early this morning. At this time, details are limited. We are in contact with law enforcement in Alabama trying to obtain further information."
