Mike Ashley's court case has probably made the public look at him more favourably, according to a retail journalist.
The Sports Direct boss has won a High Court case against investment banker Jeffrey Blue, who claimed the pair made a £15 million deal in a pub which was not fulfilled.
Deirdre Hipwell, the retail editor at The Times told Sam Delaney: "It seems like an awful lot of money has been spent on trying to resolve an issue which I think the average person would have seen right away was a bit of a nonsense idea.
"Many people probably have been in a situation when they’ve been out after work drinking and they’ve said a load of nonsense."
She believes Ashley "was probably showing off a bit, as we’ve all probably done after a few drinks."
Whilst Ashley is "not out of the woods yet" with the way Sports Direct has been run, Hipwell thinks "people will feel a bit differently about him and I think people would like to have a drink with him in the pub."
