Two 18-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences after a black student at Nottingham Trent University filmed abuse chanted outside her room.

Rufaro Chisango tweeted while locked in her room at the university's halls of residence on Monday evening (March 5).

The abusers can be heard chanting "we hate the blacks" as well as "ooh, ahh, **** the blacks."

As well as the video, Chisango tweeted "yoo I'm fuming, the way people in the same uni halls as me are chanting 'we hate the blacks' outside my bedroom door.

"Words cannot describe how sad this makes me feel, in this 2018 people think this is still acceptable."

Chisango reported the abuse to the halls of residence on Tuesday, but the university was not informed until a day later.

A spokesperson for the university said it was "shocked and appalled" to see the video and was investigating "as a matter of urgency".

"We are also working with our accommodation partner to understand why the university was only alerted to this on Wednesday evening after this was reported to them in the very early hours of Tuesday," the university continued.

Chisango saoid she was frustrated by the delay but "I just want the appropriate action to be taken".
