Republican Party doubles down in response to Roy Moore allegations

The candidate is alleged to have had inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32

The Republican Party is asserting damage control after bombshell allegations about one of their candidates emerged in the press.

Roy Moore is a candidate for a seat in the Senate to represent Alabama.

On Thursday, The Washington Post published a series of allegations against him, including an account from a 53-year-old woman named Leigh Corfman.

She claims she met Moore when she was only 14, and in a subsequent encounter, kissed her and had inappropriate sexual contact with her.

Three other women have made allegations against the Republican candidate, but saying no contact other than kissing occurred.

A number of high profile Republicans - including John McCain - have called for Moore to pull out of the race if the allegations were true.

Moore's campaign have dismissed the claims, calling them "garbage" and blasting The Washington Post for what they called a "fabrication."
