#roastbannon: Twitter gives Steve Bannon some rather unfortunate dopplegangers

Steve Bannon has had a difficult week, to say the least

Steve Bannon's getting it from all angles at the moment - and the good burghers of Twitter have been revelling in his misfortune.

Bannon was credited with masterminding Donald Trump's election campaign last year and was swiftly installed as the President's right-hand man following his shock victory.

Some claimed the former Breitbart editor was the 'shadow president', suggesting he was the real power behind the throne.

But following a string of unwelcome headlines, including reports of a clash with Mr Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, Bannon has been stripped of his position on the National Security Council.

Bannon's week got even worse when Mr Trump gave a less-than-convincing appraisal of him in an interview with the New York Post. The President played down Bannon's role in his election triumph, saying he “didn’t know Steve” before he joined the campaign in August and that “he was not involved in my campaign until very late".

Twitter, as we know, loves nothing more than a bit of schadenfraude, and true to form it has made Bannon's week even worse by launching the #roastbannon hashtag, pouring scorn on the embattled strategist.

Some of the tweets have been pretty unpleasant, to be honest, but there have been some funny ones as well - particularly those which suggest lookalikes for Bannon.

We've managed to whittle down the best ones for your viewing pleasure. Take a look below.
