It's possible that Russia has a recording of Donald Trump Jr's meeting with a Russian lawyer, according to a politics lecturer.
Donald Trump's senior advisor Jared Kushner has given a statement on the Trump team's alleged meeting with a Russian lawyer which appears to distance him from the meeting. Donald Trump Jr had reportedly been told it would provide damaging information about Hillary Clinton.
Politics and international relations lecturer Dr Matthew Mokhefi-Ashton told Sam Delaney: "If they are sending people from the Russian government to talk to people it wouldn't be completely beyond the realms of possibility for them to have recorded stuff."
He believes if the meeting took place "you’d be insane not to record the meeting really."
He added: "One of the things that really struck me about [Kushner's] statement was how incredibly carefully worded it was... you could tell a lawyer had gone over it several times."
Mokhefi-Ashton thinks "Trump puts far too much emphasis on what he considers loyalty over necessarily looking at their political qualifications" when employing people.
When Trump employed Kushner he "painted him as some sort of wonder kid" and this meant he could be involved in everything, which "has got an awful lot of people’s backs up."
