Sir Vince Cable dismisses suggestions Sarah Olney left his staff over reported election expenses investigation

The Liberal Democrat Leader explained her reasoning for leaving his employ

Sir Vince Cable has dismissed suggestions Sarah Olney left her role as his chief of staff over claims of being investigated for her expenses.

The website Guido Fawkes wrote in June the former MP for Richmond Park was reported to the police over her election expenses.

Now, Olney has left her position as chief of staff for the Liberal Democrat Leader.

When Julia Hartley-Brewer asked the question over claims of a reported investigation over her expenses, Cable explained her reasoning.

He said: "As far as I’m aware, she, I and other candidates have behaved entirely properly and operating on the advice on how expenses should be declared.

"I don’t believe there’s any problem there whatsoever. She decided she wanted to continue as the candidate in Richmond Park.

"She had devoted a big chunk of her life to winning that seat, trying to hold it, she wants to fight to regain it.

“It wasn’t compatible for a difficult full-time job with me."

Listen above.
