SNP lawmaker Kate Forbes claims 'Theresa May is driving us towards independence'

An SNP lawmaker has said that Theresa May's tactics are pushing the people of her country towards independence.

The SNP continues to push for a new referendum, despite critics suggesting that they had their chance to secede from the UK in the original vote three years ago.

MSP Kate Forbes appeared on Julia Hartley-Brewer's show this morning and said Theresa May is "hardening support for independence" because Scots are "unhappy with the direction she’s taking," but if she "met Nicola Sturgeon halfway" Scots would be happier with the situation.

Forbes added: “What we’ve seen over the last few months…is a total abandonment of engaging in Scotland. We have not been engaged with or listened to [on the EU]."

When Julia rather cheekily suggested the English should get a vote in any referendum, Forbes responded by saying large numbers of Conservatives in England support independence for Scotland, adding that she "welcomes" this sentiment.
