A vehicle has ploughed into a sidewalk in Times Square, New York, reportedly killing one person. 

New York City Police have declared a “mass casualty incident," according to Reuters. The New York Police Department has told CBS that the incident is not connected to terrorism.

The New York City Fire Department said at least 12 people are receiving treatment. 

Witnesses have also said that the car was driving against the traffic, although the precise cause of the crash has yet to be confirmed.

The NYPD has closed off the area and reports claim nearby buildings are in lockdown.

A video posted online shows a man being led away by police after the incident.

Witnesses on Twitter said people were screaming and running. Some pictures on Twitter show a many lying on the ground on a zebra crossing.
