An intoxicated teenager who shouted "heil Hitler" whilst throwing laughing gas canisters at Jewish shoppers has been jailed for six months.

Patrick Delaney shouted the abuse at four members of the Orthodox Jewish community, including a 13-year-old boy in Tottenham Hale, north London, Court News UK reported.

He also reportedly yelled “Hitler is coming" at his victims. He conducted the attack after he had fallen out with his girlfriend, Gazette News said.

Delaney shouted the abuse from a van. Two others were inside, including his brother, however charges were dropped against the pair.

Victim Chaya Stern told of how she and her son hid in a nearby supermarket, as they were too scared to leave and face the attacker.

She said: "I know it will take time to get over it. We didn't do anything to these men, we didn't agitate or argue with them, we were just in fact people who wanted to go shopping."

This is the second time that the 19-year-old has been convicted of racial abuse, as he shouted "tandoori" and "naan" towards someone at a swimming pool in 2012.

Delaney told the court that he himself had been subject to similar abuse as he was a member of the travelling community.
