'There can only be blood' in Catalan independence, says George Galloway

Our host gave a passionate monologue over the unfolding crisis in Spain

George Galloway has said the unfolding crisis in Catalonia can only lead to blood.

The Catalan Parliament declared independence, and the response of the government in Madrid was to strip the region of its authority.

Spanish officials are expected to take control of key institutions in Catalonia over the coming days and weeks.

In an impassioned monologue, our host warned the ongoing situation could only lead to violence.

He said: "For me, I’ve said from the beginning of the crisis, the Spanish government has done everything wrong they could possibly have done wrong."

"When it moves its forces into Catalonia, presumably starting now, what will happen? There can only be blood.

"Even if – and I believe them – the Catalan independence movement tends to a take a Ghandian approach of non-violent civil disobedience, the Guardia Civil will not.

"They are brutes, many of them still imbued with the fascist mentality of their role of Spain’s fascist decades."

Watch above.
