A wild elephant in China took the unusual decision to walk out of its home in the forest and hop across the border into Laos.
Luckily it did not trample the barrier at the border, instead politely stepping over it during the night, according to The New Daily.
It left the Yunnan Province and spent around two hours in Luang Matha before returning home on Saturday (January 27).
Security staff are said to have been left baffled when seeing the elephant walking down the road, but informed local residents of the dangers it posed.
Border guard Li Zhifu explained “it’s winter now and there’s not a lot of food in the forest areas" so this means elephants are often spotted "hunting for food in nearby villages.
“This time, the elephant wandered around within our exit port but could not cause any harm because of our efforts."
