Antony Costa has written off the UK’s chances of ever again winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

The UK’s last winners were Katrina and the Waves in 1997 and Costa, who came 11th in the competition with Blue in 2011, fears this country’s long wait for success will go on and on.

"I don't think it [a UK win] is ever going to happen,” he told Paul Ross.

This year’s UK entrant is Joe and Jake with You’re Not Alone, and Costa believes they should forget about winning and just focus on getting as much out of it as they can.

"We didn't go there to win, we went there to show people Blue are back," he added. “If they [the contestant] is going there for an ulterior motive then it could work.

“For us it did a good job because it put us back on the map."
