Britain could be facing a giant rat epidemic!
A rodent measuring two feet from snout to tail was discovered in Lincolnshire at the weekend and Jeff Sullivan, who dealt with the pest, claims the animals are getting bigger.
Sullivan, from SW.A.T. Total Pest Control, says there are a number of factors contributing to their growth.
Speaking to the Paul Ross Full Set Breakfast show, he said: "It's a combination of everything really. There’s the situation of dustbins being emptied on a fortnightly basis, so there's plenty of food in there for them to scrounge around.
“There's litter being chucked down, and we grow a lot of maize products enriched with Vitamin K. You add that into the mix and these rats will get bigger and bigger."
Sullivan warned listeners that, if they see a rat, they should call the proper experts because the creatures can carry up to 35 diseases.
"A rat has got no bladder, so it urinates wherever it goes,” he said. “It's really important we keep these creatures under control."
SW.A.T. Total Pest Control received the call about the giant rat from a family in Grimsby, who raised the alarm as soon as they saw it.
"They were preparing to go on holiday and saw it run across the patio," Sullivan added. "In all the years I've been doing pest control, that is by far the biggest rat I’ve ever caught."
