Conservative London Mayoral hopeful Zac Goldsmith insists he can represent all Londoners, despite his privileged background.
His upbringing as the son of billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith has often been critcised when compared with that of fellow candidate, Sadiq Khan, who is the child of an immigrant bus driver.
But in an interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer, the Richmond Park MP said: "I would say look at the record. Look at my record as an MP and off the back of the last election and compare it with Sadiq Khan's.
"He inherited a rock-solid safe Labour seat and turned it into a marginal. It's not about background, it's about delivery.
"Anyone can make promises before an election, but you'd be mad to judge a politician by the promises, because promises are cheap in politics.
"If you look at the record, that's something an MP can't hide from. I've kept my promises, I've done what I've said I was going to do."
