MP Barry Gardiner has paid a moving tribute to Jo Cox.
Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered on Thursday in her constituency Birstall, West Yorkshire. Gardiner, the Labour MP for Brent North, knew Cox well.
"You just wonder what state our politics has descended to when something like can happen," he told Sam Delaney. "Here is someone who has simply devoted her life to try and help other people, and she gets shot.
"Most of the politicians in this place are trying to be decent people. Jo was caring, she was loving, she was charming.
"She was a wonderful person, she was a great colleague in this place, whenever you met her she was full of good humour she was always laughing, feeling positive and bright and focused.
"She spoke passionately in the chamber about the Syrian refugee children. Read what she said about the anguish that parents were going through over their children. She wanted this country to step up and help them. All she wanted to do was help other people.
"God forbid that we should ever start being afraid of our own constituents. We're there for no other purpose than to help them."
