Donald Trump is Hillary Clinton’s "worst nightmare" in the US presidential race, Piers Morgan claimed on talkRADIO this morning.
TV presenter Morgan, who has hosted programmes on both sides of the Atlantic, interviewed Trump for ITV against the backdrop of the billionaire businessman's campaign to secure the Republican nomination.
Now Trump appears all but certain to go head-to-head with Democrat Clinton in this year's presidential election, Morgan revealed his view of the looming contest, speaking on talkRADIO's Paul Ross Full Set Breakfast show.
“It’s a straight two-horse race," said Morgan. "It’s him against Hillary Clinton. And he is her worst nightmare because he’s an attack dog like no one has ever seen in the history of American politics.
“I think Trump will be far more moderate going forward in a battle against Hillary Clinton because his business brain will tell him it’s the way to win the presidency, but I would not underestimate Trump and I would not think he doesn’t have a very good chance of winning, because he has.
“Trump is a businessman and showman so I wouldn’t take too seriously his inflammatory remarks. They were said to win the Republican nomination.
"The Republican Party in America is very right wing, very conservative. If you’re going to be the nominee – and he’s now presumptive nominee so almost certainly has it in the can – you’ve got to really play to the base.
“They are very right wing people. Trump is not right wing, historically. If you study his politics over the years he’s been a very moderate guy. He’s donated money to [Hillary Clinton].”
