Holidaymakers should not live in fear of a terrorist attack

Security expert Margaret Gilmore has told talkRADIO you are more likely to be killed by a mosquito than a terrorist!

German newspaper Bild claims intelligence suggests the likelihood of a terrorist plot to attack southern France, the Costa del Sol in Spain, and both coasts in Italy, while families are apparently avoiding north African resorts like Sharm el Sheikh and Tunisia due to fears surrounding their safety.

But Gilmore, Security Expert and Senior Associate at the Royal United Services Institute, insists there is a greater danger from bugs and cars.

“You’re more likely to be killed by a mosquito bite or a road traffic accident than a terrorist attack,” she told Julia Hartley-Brewer. “I’m not undermining the horror of getting caught up in it [a terror attack], but the chances remain very, very slim.

“Yes, you have to be alert. We live in an age where there is risk, but we have to keep it in proportion.”

“Unless there is a specific warning that comes from the government, I don’t think we’re at the stage where you should think twice about going somewhere like France, like Spain, like Italy.”
