10 years of horror: America and its bloody timeline of mass shootings

Las Vegas: Horrific incident was by no means the first in the US

A shooting took place in Las Vegas

Tuesday, October 3, 2017

The attack in Las Vegas is the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history - but it is really just the latest in a long line of horrific tragedies, a sorry tale of shot-up schools, bullet-riddled bars and families torn apart for ever.

Gunman Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and injured hundreds more by shooting from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. In doing so he joined a long line of infamy, a litany of down-and-outs who have decided to take out the frustration of their own miserable existences by existinguishing the lives of others.

The concept of a mass shooting really came to prominence back in 1999, when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took out their teenage angxt on their school in Colorado, killing 13 people in an event which went round the world in seconds.

But the frequency of such events has only accelerated since then. Rather than embracing a 'never again' culture, America has steadfastly refused to change its own gun laws, and the result has been an ever-rising tide of blood.

We've compiled a list of the most shocking incidents of the last 10 years. It makes for extremely grim reading.
