Police have today (Monday 23 October) charged a Birmingham teenager with terrorism offences.

The 15-year old boy, who cannot be named, has been charged with one count of preparing for terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 after attempting to travel.

He will appear before Birmingham Youth Court on 27 November.

Detectives from West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detained the teenager at Birmingham Airport on 12 June 2017 after he was reported missing by his family.

The arrest was intelligence-led and there was no immediate threat to the public.
