Authorities in the US are investigating Ahmad Khan Ramani's family to determine whether he acted alone in allegedly planting homemade explosives across New York and New Jersey.

Rahami's father has denied any knowledge of his son's alleged plot to commit a terror attack, while the suspect's mother, Najiba, is yet to return to the US since leaving for Turkey three weeks ago.

The suspect's wife - who has not yet been named - left the country for Pakistan, her home country, days before the incidents in New York and New Jersey. US officials have revealed that she was arrested on Monday in the United Arab Emirates.

Rahami was captured in a shoot-out in Linden, New Jersey, following an intense manhunt. He is currently charged with five counts of attempted murder for firing at the officers and is the primary suspect over the bombs left in Manhattan and Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The bomb left in Manhattan detonated on Saturday, injuring 29 people, while a total of five bombs were found at a station in Elizabeth on Sunday.
