Actor Alec Baldwin has been arrested after he allegedly punched a man in the face during a dispute over a parking spot.

The 60-year-old actor was taken into custody this afternoon after the dispute, which took place outside his New York home.

Police say Baldwin claimed he had a family member holding the spot when a man driving a station wagon pulled up and took it.

Officials said the two men were arguing and pushing each other before Mr Baldwin turned violent.

The 49-year-old station wagon driver was taken to a hospital with jaw pain after the altercation.

Baldwin is known for impersonating Donald Trump on the American TV show, Saturday Night Live.

Asked about Baldwin's arrest, Mr Trump said: "I wish him luck."
