Armed gunmen have stolen 70 kilograms of gold from an armoured van in France, according to reports.

The gunmen are now on the run after they stole from a Loomis security van this morning near Lyon, the BFM TV news channel said.

The gold was worth £2.1 million, however police are still searching for the three suspects.

They locked the drivers of the van inside, in order for the robbery to take place. The three gunmen then set the van on fire and left the scene.

Police were able to free the drivers before any injuries occurred.
