An Australian soldier has been killed during a training exercise in Queensland by a falling tree branch.
The death has been confirmed by the Australian Defence Force, according to News.com.au.
At the time of the incident, the soldier was a passenger in an armoured personnel carrier at the Shoalwater Bay training area.
Although others were inside the vehicle at the time, no one else was injured.
A branch fell from a tree and struck the soldier, and although colleagues attempted CPR the victim was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived.
No further details are to be publically released about the tragedy, however the Australian Defence Force said "the Army and broader ADF community extends its deepest sympathies to the soldier’s family and friends."
The Queensland Police Service are currently investigating the incident and will be providing a report for the coroner.
