Police have released a video showing a gang of robbers attacking a security guard with an axe before escaping with £75,000.

Footage shot on the guard’s bodycam shows him arriving at a petrol station in Cheylesmore, Coventry before the gang struck and forced him into a back office while demanding he hand over the money.

The victim suffered a fractured cheek bone and was left so traumatised he later resigned.

An investigation by West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit uncovered the gang and their involvement in two other violent robberies - including a £13,000 raid on a Co-Op branch where staff were tied up and threatened with a crowbar.

Marcus Cohen, 39, was jailed for 21 years, Ashley Bell, 33, was jailed for 22 years while Connor Sanderson, 21, was jailed for 14 years.

DCI Ronan Tyrer, of West Midlands ROCU, said: “This was a really violent gang, whose members were really well known in the Cheylesmore area.

“They used high levels of violence to get what they wanted, with a total disregard for their victims.”
