The Saint Louis University men's basketball team were probably already pretty down as they packed their bags and prepared to head home from New York on Wednesday night, having just suffered a heavy defeat.

But things got much worse for the 'Billikens'  when they left the playing arena to find their bus nowhere to be seen.

A 56-year-old woman had actually stolen the vehicle from the venue in St Bonaventure and was "driving while intoxicated,” police trooper James O’Callaghan said.

The team, who had just gone down by 25 points to 'the Bonnies,' stayed inside the arena as they waited for the police to track the bus down.

Eventually the bus was located in Randolph, New York which is around 40 miles away from the arena.

The driver has been arrested and is now facing charges.

It is not yet clear why she took the bus and an investigation is ongoing.
