Defence Minister Michael Fallon is hopeful that an offensive to conquer Raqqa, the final stronghold of Islamic State, will be launched in the coming weeks.
The conquest will be crucial in order to defeat Isis, who regard the Syrian city of Raqqa as their original bastion.
Coalition forces have been steadily pushing towards the city, currently besieging Isis' Iraqi stronghold of Mosul. Iraqi government forces and Kurdish fighters have led the ground offensive, supported by US airstrikes.
US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has also suggested the Raqqa offensive will begin within weeks, potentially before Mosul is recaptured.
