Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has borne the brunt of the public's abuse following the BBC's big salary reveal.

The earnings dump revealed that Shearer received between £400,000 and £499,999 for his role on the hour-long weekly football show - making him one of the Corporation's highest-paid presenters.

The former Newcastle and England player has long been criticised for his perceived lack of insight and research, although this has been tempered in recent years as fans have praised him for making greater effort in his analysis on the show.

Earlier Shearer's MOTD host, Gary Lineker, was the one in the firing line after tweeting a cheeky message in advance of the big reveal.
