Police have discovered a body in a burnt-out car which had been rented by the Greek ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis.

Amiridis went missing three days ago, having travelled to Braslia for New Year celebrations on Copacabana beach. His wife was the last to hear from him on Monday.

The ambassador was last seen in Nova Iguacu, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, which is where the car was discovered.

Forensic tests will be carried out to identify the body. But police believe it is unlikely that the ambassador was kidnapped, due to no-one demanding ransom.
