A bomb threat made to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) prompted a major evacuation of dorm rooms late on Wednesday.

The warning came into the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center around 10pm local time, which led to the authorities taking the decision to evacuate dormitories.

The students were sent to nearby Drake Stadium as a precaution while a search was conducted.

Aerial footage gathered by local news outlets showed masses of students streaming into the stadium.

A statement by UCLA officials said the threat was unfounded, with nothing suspicious being found, and the students were allowed to return to their rooms.
