Vince Cable has said Liam Fox is living on another planet if he thinks the Brexit trade deal is easy and getting no Brexit deal would be like jumping off a cliff.

Theresa May has said she is prepared to reject a Brexit transition period if the UK and EU can't agree on long-term trading arrangements, meaning the chances of a "no deal" Brexit are increased.

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox has also claimed the Brexit trade deal will be the “easiest in human history” but Liberal Democrats leader Vince Cable told James Whale "I think he’s living on another planet if that’s what he’s saying."

Cable said that leaving without a deal would like "jumping off a cliff. Unless you’re serious about suicide is not a clever thing to do."

He believes "if we're going to get out of this downward spiral associated with Brexit it is going to have to come to a decision point where the public are asked" about what they want.

Cable claims if the UK did want to stay in the EU "I think there will be an acceptance in Europe that Britain would be welcomed back" and could improve on issues like migration.

The MP thinks the biggest cost of Brexit is "the effect on the economy, we can already see it’s slowing down" and "it is going to deteriorate further because of all the uncertainty around Brexit."
