The idea of Jacob Rees-Mogg taking over as Tory leader is "ridiculous" according to a party insider Henry Hill.
Hill, assistant editor of the Conservative Home website, says the Old Etonian lacks the experience to take over and wouldn't come over terribly well with the public.
He said: "if you put Jacob Rees-Mogg before the public it probably wouldn’t go down terribly well.
"The idea of putting somebody into the leadership with no ministerial experience at all is ridiculous."
However, Hill added, he could be given a ministerial or cabinet position as “you can see the temptation for the whips because it would sort of keep Jacob Rees-Mogg quiet on issues that aren’t on his brief.”
