A British man has been killed after he was reportedly dragged into a river by a crocodile in Sri Lanka.

The Sun is reporting Paul McClean was cleaning his hands in the river when the reptile attacked him.

Search and rescue teams combed the area called Crocodile Rock to search for the 24-year-old, who was thought to be a journalist for the Financial Times.

The Oxford University graduate was believed to be staying at the East Beach Surf Resort on the southeast area of the island.

A spokesman from the Foreign Office has said they are assisting McClean’s family.
