One of Birmingham's busiest thoroughfares was closed this afternoon - after snow and ice began falling from a crane.
West Midlands Police confirmed the closure of Broad Street, a major bar and shopping hub, this afternoon. The debris is coming from a crane, according to ITV News.
The street, usually packed with shoppers, was brought to a standstill as buses were diverted and police said up roadblocks. However there are no reports of anyone being injured.
The closure of Broad Street comes as Britain braces for a night of freezing temperatures, with the mild Christmas Day weather giving way to a wintry chill.
Temperatures in Birmingham are set to plunge below freezing tonight and will barely rise above zero tomorrow, as the big freeze grips the Midlands.
