A burning van drove into a crowd of pedestrians in Shanghai this morning (February 2), leaving 18 people injured.
Three of those who were hurt in the incident outside a Starbucks coffee outlet were said to be in a serious condition, according to The Business Times.
Shanghai police believe the driver was smoking while driving and his van had "dangerous substances" inside, which had caught alight.
Video posted on Chinese social media appeared to show several people on the ground who were given medical treatment.
Images also appeared to show that the van had stopped only when it hit some fencing.
The Starbucks outlet was closed after the incident which took place at around 9am local time.
The scene has now been cleared, with just a few police officers guarding the area.
