A bus driver has been taken to hospital following a crash into a shop on a London high street.

Two passengers on the bus are trapped on the upper deck after a route 77 double-decker bus was crashed into a building in Lavender Hill, near to Clapham Junction railway station.

Police were called to the site of the incident just before 7am on Thursday, and there are not believed to be life-threatening injuries or casualties, although reports are conflicting.

Pictures on Twitter show the bus on the pavement, with the front of the Poggen Pohl Kitchen Design Centre smashed and damaged following the impact.

Shattered glass lies across the ground, and paramedics can be seen tending to people on the upper half of the bus.

Wandsworth Police posted a statement on Twitter to say the road, which is usually packed on weekday mornings, will be closed while they work on the scene.
