The five terrorists who attempted to conduct an attack in Cambrils were wearing fake suicide belts, it has emerged.

The five men ploughed a car into pedestrians in the seaside resort, mere hours after a van had been driven into crowds gathered on the Las Ramblas tourist boulevard in Barcelona.

Seven people, including one police officer, were injured in the Cambrils attack, which ended after the authorities shot the five attackers dead. A woman has now been confirmed dead.

The five attackers were wearing suicide belts, which the police confirmed were fake after conducting controlled explosions on the equipment.

Three people are in custody in connection with the Cambrils attack, which was directly linked to the earlier atrocity in Las Ramblas by the president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont

Thirteen people died and more than 100 were injured in the attack on Las Ramblas, which has drawn the condemnation of world leaders.

Prime Minister Theresa May expressed how “sickened” she was by the events which took place just after 5pm (4pm GMT) in the coastal city, vowing Spain had the UK’s full support.
